An Honest Review: Van Gogh Immersive Experience Los Angeles

This is a bit overdue but since Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists, I definitely wanted to give my two cents on this exhibit. Especially after seeing this all over TikTok, I really wanted to go.

When we first came in, there was one big room and people were sitting on the floor all around. The visuals definitely live up to the hype, vibrant colors and illustrations all splashed on the walls from a projector. The walls have various graphics that move and change color along with synced instrumental music.

If you enter into the second room (the bigger room), there are actual cushions you can sit on so you don’t have to sit on the floor. We made the mistake of stopping on the first room in, honestly at first I thought there would be multiple rooms like 5-10 that we would go into. We were a little disappointed to find out it was really just two main rooms, with the second room having an upstairs floor where you can watch from above.

That being said, I do think it was a beautiful, short and sweet experience. The visuals were truly amazing and it felt really romantic to watch with my partner. We sat on a cushion near a corner so I was able to get some cool shots of my outfit along with the art (highly recommending finding a spot near the wall for this aesthetic).

But, being super transparent, if you buy tickets thinking this is going to be a really long and extravagant experience, I think you’d be slightly disappointed. There’s not much else to it besides the projectors, aside from a sunflower wall near the bar.

At the gift shop I was able to pick up a Taschen book, and we were tempted to buy a Van Gogh puzzle - but we found the exact same one for wayyy cheaper on Amazon. So if you go, maybe don’t get trapped at the gift shop lol most of it I think you can find elsewhere. That being said, as I’m writing this, I realize now we never got the puzzle (sort of one of those things we said we’d do when we got home, but never did? oh well).

Personally, I loved it. Even knowing what I know now, I still would want to go — but I might be biased because I also went to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and have been keen to his art ever since I was little. If you are not actually a fan of him, or really feel that you might not be getting your money’s worth, then I would think twice about going.

Originally you had to get tickets way in advance (you can get them here), so I was lucky my fiancé has planned this surprise date for me. But I just checked the website and it seems that LA just added a new block of tickets, so if you’re interested in going, I would recommend getting one now before the exhibit closes.

Overall - is it overhyped?

Probably a bit, but if you’re like me, you’ll enjoy going anyways x

Let me know if you end up going and your thoughts <3
