Ellis Island & New York City

As someone who's lived the plot of The Devil Wears Prada and has worked in fashion most of her life, it seemed almost like a rite of passage to visit the Big Apple.

Channeling my inner Rachel Green with my black turtleneck and knee-highs, I kept it real chic and simple for the East Coast. We visited in the middle of March, so you can imagine the East Coast-esque weather we experienced on our stay. Had to bring out the big parka for this trip (thank you Aritzia). In only a weekend's worth of time, we tried to cram in as much culture + touristy excursions as possible.

We visited Ellis Island in Upper New York Bay to discover a little more about immigration history. We actually got to see some of the tests they would use in order to let immigrants pass into the U.S., including video formats and witnessing signatures on their passenger records. We spent a good amount of time there sort of exploring and learning about America's far-gone history and then took the ferry all the way to Battery Park in NY.

Arriving back in the city, we found this cute little Italian place called Inattesto Pizzabar Casano. As our first official meal in the city, we tried their rigatoni all' amatricana and arugula salad with a classic sauvignon blanc.

Inattesto Pizzabar Casano + Tiffany & Co.

After stuffing our faces, honestly one of the best parts for me was just being able to walk amongst some of the most well-known retail stores in the fashion capital of the world. I even stepped foot in the iconic Tiffany & Co. on 727 Fifth Avenue.

As cliché as it may sound, being able to fake 'breakfast' in front of the store and ogle at the rings inside really made the trip memorable for me. My girlfriends and I even got our ring sizes and talked favorite cuts and karats, fantasizing about future plans. Then after, we walked on down to a little Greek cafe down the street and had wine with lunch, in true Holly Golightly style.

Lastly but not least, during this trip we mastered the subway. And by mastering, I mean that we figured out if we were on the subway going the wrong direction, we could get off on the next stop and switch with only a five to seven minute delay to where we were going... That's how everyone takes the subway, right?
