How to Marie Kondo Your Accessories
If you’re like me and everyone else on the planet, you may have just binged Marie Kondo’s latest show on Netflix, Tidying Up With Marie Kondo.
Naturally, as someone who shops a lot, I try to make it a habit to go through my clothes at least once a month to get rid of what’s unneeded, neglected, doesn’t fit anymore, etc. She brings it to a whole new level with her marie kondo folding method.
While my clothes didn’t need as much of a refresh, I wanted to really organize the accessories in my life. It’s hard to accessorize when you don’t know what you’re working with, and I find from time to time that my accessories get jangled, mixed up, or misplaced often—which leads to the unspeakable: lost or missing favorite jewelry pieces. ):
So I wanted to show my accessories a little TLC and do some reorganization. I usually like to display my items so that they’re a little easier to find in the morning. Just for my own personal preference, I prefer to plan my outfits a little more, and sort of wing it with my accessories on the day of.
I always feel that accessories really make the look and give you that polished, put-together look. I’ll show you here how I organize my accessories in my bedroom:
I use this cute organizer from Target. This is really more for what I’m ‘currently wearing’ that month. I rotate these out but I usually keep a couple of rings, earrings and bracelets here.
This organizer is great for separating all your earrings (also from Target!). I put these into categories of minimal, statement, and hoops. As you can see, I’m big on earrings.
This is how I organize my necklaces — clearly a DIY project haha, but I used these clear push pins for a minimal look and it gets the job done. I usually don’t put more than 1-2 necklaces on one pin so I can see them all clearly.
And that’s pretty much it! I do have a separate drawer for sunglasses and scrunchies next to my earrings organizer. There’s probably much better ways to kon-mari your life, but this is what works for me to keep my style chic and organized.
If you’ve tried any marie kondo method, or have any other organizational tips, let me know! Been desperately searching for a way to optimize my closet so if you know any, don’t be shy!
